Banana Boat Ride on Maunalua Bay in Hawaiʻi Kai
- 1 hour (approx.)
Overview
H2O Sports Hawaii runs banana boat rides on Maunalua Bay in Hawaiʻi Kai, a short drive east of Waikīkī. A banana boat is a yellow inflatable that you sit astride and hold on to while a jet ski tows it across the bay, and it is built for laughter-filled group fun with friends or family. After checking in at the office in the Hawaiʻi Kai Shopping Center, which sits on a private marina, a shuttle boat takes you to the company's floating activity platform, where a coordinator places you in a group. Up to six riders share one banana boat, depending on their total weight. The ride itself lasts 15 minutes; allow about an hour for the whole visit, including the shuttle and some waiting for your group. Everyone wears a life vest, the water is shallow and you will get wet. The Hawaiʻi Kai coastline, Koko Crater, Koko Head and the Koʻolau Range form the backdrop, and the crew photographs and films every ride, with photos and GoPro videos for sale at the office's media center.
