Waikiki Whale Watching Tour on the Hokulani Trimaran
- 2 hours (approx.)
Overview
Spend a winter morning looking for humpback whales off Waikiki aboard Hokulani, Three Tiki Sailing's three-hull sailing trimaran. The two-hour tour leaves the Ala Wai Boat Harbor and heads out along Oahu's south shore, where humpbacks arrive each season to breed and raise their calves in warm Hawaiian waters. The crew and onboard naturalists look for whales and position the boat for viewing, sharing information about the whales and their behavior, such as breaching, spy hopping and tail slapping. The trimaran's wide, stable platform has plenty of seating and shade and an open deck with clear views, with Diamond Head and the Honolulu skyline as a backdrop. Bottled water is provided, guests may bring their own drinks and snacks for the ice cooler (no glass), and there are restrooms on board. The tour runs in the whale season only. If no one on board sees a whale, every guest is offered one complimentary return trip, subject to availability.

Additional Info
- Meeting point: the Three Tiki Sailing check-in at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, 95 Holomoana St, Honolulu, HI 96815, where Holomoana Street meets Ala Moana Boulevard next to the Prince Waikiki hotel. Look for the "Three Tiki Sailing Check-in" signs. Arrive 30 minutes before departure. Use the street address for directions: searching "Three Tiki Sailing" in a ride app leads to the mailing address, not the dock. Paid harbor parking is available. This booking does not include transportation.
- Every ticketed guest must sign an individual waiver before boarding, and the QR ticket from the confirmation email is scanned at check-in.
- Adult tickets cover ages 13 and up and child tickets ages 3 to 12; this booking covers guests aged 3 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- The tour runs during humpback whale season (the operator gives December 20 to April 20). Whales are wild animals and individual behavior cannot be promised. If no one on board sees a whale on your trip, every guest is offered one complimentary return trip, subject to availability, at no additional cost.
- What to bring: sunscreen (no spray sunscreen), sunglasses, a hat, a long-sleeve layer depending on the weather, a camera and shoes that are easy to take off (no shoes are worn on board). Bring your own drinks and snacks if you like; no glass bottles. Guests must be 21 or older to have alcohol. Drones are not allowed on board. Storage on board is limited, so pack light.
- Accessibility: guests must be able to step onto the boat with minimal assistance, so the tour is not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations. Space for wheelchairs and strollers is very limited. Tell the crew about young children at check-in so a child-size life jacket is ready. Expecting mothers are welcome after checking with their doctor. Guests prone to seasickness may want to bring ginger candies; the crew cannot provide medication.
- If the operator cancels a trip because of the weather, it helps you reschedule or issues a full refund. Tips are not included; 15-20% is customary.
